I found this site pretty up-to-date with MBA info: http://www.findcourses.co.uk inc costs, start dates and duration etc, as well as study options too. Where abouts are you based? I was looking at this course, thought it looked worth while: http://www.leadershipcourses.eu/Executive_Education__d3161.html what do you make of it?

There is a program that I found that allows you to get your masters in a little over a year as opposed to two. It definitely helps that you have eight years of experience for your application process. The program is called an amMBA and seems to be pretty popular. Good Luck!

Consult the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, etc), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It's the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.

Job prospects with an MSc in Finance degree
Job prospects with an MSc in Finance degree?
Hi guys ! I am about to study towards an MSc in Finance course at one of UK's top business schools. My question is, what do you think the job prospects upon graduation are (given that the financial sector is in a mess) . I wanted to work as an equity trader, however, I heard that the banks are not recruiting for such positions at the moment. The credit crunch made me thikning about a career in management consulting, yet I don't know if the economic slowdown won't affect such opportuinities as well. Thanks a lot for sharing your views.

I'm going to be in the same boat as you :s It's really hard to predict what it will be like when you graduate, but as far as I know, most management consulting firms want you to have an MBA
2
The MSc in Finance provides a thorough grounding in the theory and analytical techniques required by finance professionals operating in todayĆ¢€™s business environment. It offers students a global perspective on the process of financial decision-making and practical knowledge of the workings of financial markets and the price-setting process. You have a bright future !!

PhD in Europe.

Go for your Ph.D.!! Two masters degrees will do nothing for you by way of opening doors and advancement in your profession, but the Ph.D. will. Trust me, I have had the experience, and you want to get your Ph.D. as early in your career as possible. Good Luck!!

WOW thats a big question, an IB is considered the same as a High school. He will need to do several things. First he will need to select a school, and find out its admission requirements. Assuming you've done that you will need to take either the SAT or ACT test, take the TOEFL (test of English as a foreign language). he will also need to have his transcripts reviewed by a third party verification service they will send an evaluation to the school for use in admission. They will put his transcripts on a traditional 4.0 grading scale and evaluate his credits. He will need to write an admission essay and submit that and the application fee by the deadline. Once he has gotten in he should contact the international students office to arrange the documentation to get his student visa, this will require a letter of financial ability (showing that you have the money in a bank account or have other financial aid to support your study). then you hope on a plane and arrange for the school to meet you at the airport

Hey, you're in NY! Plenty of top-notch schools, and if you check, most if not all offer evening and weekend schedules for students who work. Several offer 'online' courses also, if that's better for you. Check out the websites for NYU, Columbia, Queens College, Baruch, Hunter, CUNY - i am sure you will find a program. best of luck to you.

By all means. In the 3-years I have been answering credit questions here I have come to believe that personal finance classes should not only be offered but should be required in high school. The amount of people that come straight out of school and know nothing about finance or credit is appalling.

Shouldn't a Finance course be a requirement of High School graduation
Shouldn't a Finance course be a requirement of High School graduation?
These days it's not about how smart you are bookwise, you could have a PhD in Chemistry and on your way to bankruptcy. I actually know some people who make a large amount of money at jobs they've obtained through college degrees and still manage to be broke all the time. I think if Biology and Chemistry courses in example are enforced in high school, why not Finance? Everyone has to deal with money, not the case with these other subjects. I think that would alleviate alot of problems going on like silly bad investments, foreclosures, repos, etc..things that just come down to bad management of money. Some people are in bad financial situations because of illness or other factors, those are exceptions. Alot are just bad decisions though.

Yes, it should be mandatory.
2
I don't know about other places but in the state that I live (Georgia) - one full year of Economics is required for graduation.
3
I think a degree in foraging (not necessarily in rubbish bins) for food should be a compulsory subject.
4
Why
5
I agree. I know a lot of people who don't even know how to balance a checkbook. I know in school they taught us the basics, but some people need more in depth study which would be coverd by a course dedicated to finance.
6
Having studied finance to MSc Level, and working in a bank, I can safely say that it would be not very useful to study it at school. Finance is a subset of economics. Without the relevant math background or economic intuition, the level of finance that you could possibly learn would be fairly minimal. Discrete time finance borrows a lot of its models from economic theory and if you are pricing things in continuous time, you need a lot of math to understand stochastic calculus. I mean if you've only just been learning integration, then its a bit much. Although many people do get into finance without any of that, their knowledge is fairly basic and tends to be focused around definitions of various instruments and their knowledge of current events (all of which you can get from a newspaper and not from a classroom). Given this comment beware of finance courses that do not obey this rule (they tend to be crap and cost too much). Accountancy on the other hand - Well, there's no reason why you shouldn't study that in school, but I think that this is possible.

Hi! I'm a college student who just started my first week in a Corporate Finance course. As prestigous as "treasurer" sounds, it's not really a job that needs an accountant of finance person to do. An engineer can do it just fine. The problem, of course, is getting past the absurd job qualifications and landing an interview without an accounting or finance degree. If you are going for the job, I think it may be best to find a way to meet the hiring manager in person before you send your resume.
3
Yes, in fact you might be wise to take law courses or get a law degree, that will help you tremendously! If you have any interest in marketing, please see http://marketmpb.blogspot.com matt

Yes it is. Depending on the size and structure of the company the CEO, owner, or whomever is in charge can give the job to anyone they want. In some cases they may have to get board approval first.

Would it be useful to get a finance degree when I already have a management one?
I graduated in May 2008 with a degree in Business Management and have been unable to find a job yet. I have noticed through job searching that they are alot of positions available in Finance. However, I only ever took one finance course per my curriculum in college. Would it be wise to go get my degree in Finance since it would only take me one year of course work. What about an economics degree? I am not interested in going for my MBA.

Is public finance or econometrics a better elective to take
Is public finance or econometrics a better elective to take?
I'm an accounting major. Econometrics is a high 300 level course while public finance (another economics course) is the lower 300's and easier. The public finance course consist of the spending and taxation of public schools, social security, healthcare, environment and tax systems, according to the school catalog.

If you're an accounting major- econometrics should not be too tough for you. While public finance will probably be somewhat more interesting, econometrics looks better as it is perceived to be more difficult.
2
Econometrics is a religion, where one must enjoy self-flagellation and immense pain for absolutely no reason at all. Don't take it unless you want to learn everything and have lost your self-respect. Public finance is sort of interesting and can actually have a real world implication or two, depending on the teacher.

like any other industry, banking needs salespeople. of course, in banking, they are called lending officers, or vice presidents or something, but their real job is selling financial products to their target clientƨle. you need all the financial knowledges your clients will have, plus a lot of selling skills. (I'm adding some tips 4 you) I think you should stick with Finance. Seriously, I'm finance major, but yet to do my MBA (almost), Although my talent is basically in the arts----> erm. Let's see, you actually have an MBA, that's good. I think based on current US job market, you should stick with finance. Are you more artistically inclined?? (I actually feel the same as you, honestly.) But since you already had an MBA, i advise you stick with it, and get a job. Finance MBA are HOT. Interrior designing, not too familiar, but for a business major in finance you still have a better chance in the job market. Finance definitely stand a chance more, so long you could be hired by a company. Interior designing is more like a narrower field (not that it's not good, but today's world is Business so....) Just stick with finance. At least it is better than accounting. Finance major is sought after by a lot of companies more than interior designing. You have already completed your MBA, it's not good to change so drastically. I mean, are you going to get 2 jobs? NO right? There's a friend of mine who know somebody who quitted business major (according to her, Business major is a nightmare), yup, quit business major to do art. Does not fare too well, since you have to start doing new courses and basically start from zero all over again. Why not just stick with it, at least you'll get hired by Bank of America---> not too bad you know, if you work 8 hours aday Monday to Friday, and half day for Saturday. But if you do interior designing, and you think the stuff you do is cool but nobody buys it from you. It's a competitive world out there for art majors too. But for business major, there's a constant need in the US economy in need to fill in position for people who do accounting, finance, management. With Finance and accounting being the top needed areas. So go with it, don't be so undecided, since if you really to take I.D., it might turn out not as good as you hoped. it's understandable that sometimes people wanted a change.

Personal finance includes budgeting, dealing with your money that you have, saving money, and having money set away in case of emergency. Basically preparing you for living on your own with money. Probably algebra is likely involved.
2
If you can balance a checkbook every month, you can do okay in the course. If you can't, you need the course.

Will MBA or a certification course help me to get into Finance industry?

Well if you want to be a financial planner, then get that certification. For anything else, go for an MBA. Try to go to a top school because finance jobs are competitive.
2
Sally Tomato is right on! The CFP only really helps if you want to be a financial advisor, but in general the MBA is more marketable. Unfortunately most Financial Firms are a bit picky of where you're MBA came from, so if you decide to pursue it you should focus your efforts on the top Business Schools. The link below should help. Good luck!

MBA is the basis and certification course offers additional leverage in the profession !

It depends which country you are in. The scottish loans agency gives you a possible 5 years worth of loans, which you can use for as many different courses as you like, however if those 5 years run out while you are still on a course, that's it for funding.

CFA is a certification and is generally considered more valuable than MS Finance. MS Finance needs just 1-2 years of studying and passing the exams. You can get the degree then. On the other hand, CFA takes 3 years of studying, passing exams and one also needs 2-3 years of work experience before he gets the CFA title.

Start with biblical verses from the Old Testament, then move on to the Koran (if a non-Muslim is evan allowed to touch that holy book). Basically a lot of capitalism that we take for granted is a total non-no, like chargeing interest for loaning money ... it has got to be heavily cash & carry business. Risk management is a discredited field right now. It seems that all the risk management did not have a clue how to really manage it and that is why we have the wall street collapse. It will be a long time and a lot of research before risk management is sen as a viable field.

Brooklyn University is not a bad university -- but doesn't even come close to being a top school in finance. If you want a master's degree in finance, there are two routes you can take -- get an MS or get an MBA. An MBA is more marketable -- and I would recommend that route for most people. The top finance MBA programs are Chicago, MIT, Wharton, Duke, Berkeley, Stanford. In fact, I would recommend any top 20 MBA program for someone who wants to do finance (except perhaps for Harvard and Virginia -- which are excellent for management, but odd places for finance). If you want to get an MS -- then Berkeley has a Master's in Financial Engineering. Princeton Economics has a master's in finance. And University of Chicago has a MS in Mathematical Finance.
2
I have pulled out my handy dandy 2006 US News America's Best Graduate Schools. For Finance, in order: 1. U. of Pennsylvania 2. University of Chicago 3. New York University 4. Columbia 5. Stanford 6. MIT 7. University of Cali--Los Angeles 8. University of Cali--Berkeley 9. Harvard 10. Northwestern University The GMATs are pretty important, but the most important thing is experience. Well, you just simply apply, but again, the most important piece of your application is experience in business. Most universities do not want to invest in you if they are not sure how you make it in the world of business. If you did well in school and on the GMATs, it says you are a good student and shows potential. However, being in the world of business requires more than good scores and gpas. I would certainly apply for a masters but also try to find a foot in finance. Maybe being accepted for a summer internship would be best. At least, you will get the experience that you need for the summer.

What is the better choice of course, engineering or accounting and finance
What is the better choice of course, engineering or accounting and finance ?
Now I know it is pretty strange to compare between these two but I'm considering the option of whether to take up engineering due to interest or accounting and finance because there's some degree of interest in finance, neutral on accounting and it seems to be the one with better opportunities in the future. I'm a science student in pre-U now going for degree.

Accounting and finance - these two are where the real money is but you'll be sitting for the rest of your life in the office or boring meetings. Does this fit you? If you love to sicialize with people and work outside of the office then Engeneering is what you are looking for. Be aware of less money in Engeneering though.
2
It is very difficult to say any clear answer. An analytical ability is needed for both! If you are a creative person, then go for engineering. But if you like paper work (more) then, take accounts/finance. While many accountants can interfere with the working of engineers, the reverse is very rare! If you have more of common sense, then you can take up either and understand the other also. Look around the country, and you will see an equal number of engineers as well as accounts/finance persons running companies! It is easy for an engineer to start some small business, but I do not know whether it is that easy for the other to do so and survive (I am an engineer). But I can say that the absence of pure accounting knowledge at times can be frustrating for an engineer! The other may never feel that way!

What's a better course to study: Finance or Philosophy?
I know Finance probably provides better opportunities, but honestly, I think philosophy would help me in other areas, as opposed to just studying finance...

I mean job wise, most people would say finance. These are kinds of jobs you can do with a degree in finance http://myplan.com/majors/finance-general/related-careers-52.0801.html. If you're going to go to graduate school, then I would say philosophy. It's a good major for pre-professional programs. If you're just talking about which one would make you a more well-rounded person, then philosophy seems like the logical choice but I'm sure you could just make the most out of whatever major you choose. I say decide what you want out of college and your education and then choose your major. Do you want to come out of college as an accountant or someone who deals with money? Then finance is a good major. Do you want to develop better thinking skills and opinions? Or want a major for a pre-professional program you're following...then maybe philosophy is right.
2
I'd say finance as your primary major with philosophy as your secondary major.
3
major in finance minor in philosophy.

Depends which school you go to, but a class that covers any of these topics would be valuable. Ć¢€¢ International Financial Markets Ć¢€¢ Public Finance & Fiscal Policy Ć¢€¢ Money & Banking Ć¢€¢ Corporate Valuation Ć¢€¢ Industrial Accounting Ć¢€¢ Investment Science Ć¢€¢ Risk & Insurance Ć¢€¢ Corporate Finance If you have a year to work with, I would reccomend enrolling in the CFA Program.

Do you think high school should have a mandatory basic finance and investing course
Do you think high school should have a mandatory basic finance and investing course?
It seems that young people would be better off if they learned the importance of saving and investing for their future rather than rather than blowing all their money on the here and now. A child is very lucky if they have financial guidance from family, but this is most often not the case.

Ours has a mandatory basic finance and investing and training and guidance in selecting a career. One that you can prepare for in less than two years. They give extensive testing and counseling to see what career is best for you and you have the skills for. Then see that you get the training in that career. So you can get out of school and support yourself.
2
Yes, definitely. It's amazing how little education is given on something so important for life.
3
finance, yes, investing, no - since that is just a gamble any way.
4
No, I feel confident in saying that J. Paul Getty or, a more modern example, Bill Gates, didn't study finance or investment while in high school. Studying from books limits you to what is written in those books. Think of all the books on how to make a million are on the book stands whether it be in real estate, stocks & bonds or whatever. Now compare the number of people who bought and read those books with the number of people who actually became millionaires through reading them.
5
That is just one of the courses they should have. When I was in High School I took General Business. It was considered a course for non-college bound students, but it was an excellent course. I was the only college bound student in there. Another course that would be very beneficial would be Interpersonal Relations i e how to get along with people.
6
Short answer - yes. In truth, it really doesn't matter. Unless a family has SUCCESSFULLY taught a child how to manage money, the child will either fail financially or learn the hard way.
7
I don't know so much about mandatory but there should be a personal finance elective going back to Junior High, even before high school. What makes it so apparant of a need is seeing all of the questions here from teens wanting to know what kind of jobs they can get. Imagine if there were a class that could help these kids start to plan early for making money, saving money, spending money, etc? Such a class should teach students what its like to be an adult by making them "work" for a day and then go about running a household and understanding taxes, saving, negotiating pricing on items, buying a house, etc.... sorta like the game Monopoly, only more real. If a teacher only reaches one student out of 30 and that kid turns out to be a millionaire by 40, the class will be worthwhile.
8
Yes and relate the class to math. If you can add you can balance your monthly budget.....

No.

Where do I find a course in personal finance
Where do I find a course in personal finance?
I'm looking at the community college schedule and the only thing under Economics is Econ 101, which doesn't help me. I can't afford high tuition for a course like this or I wouldn't be looking! How do I learn the daily stuff that most people take for granted, like how to budget and save? San Bernardino county, but that's close enough to Los Angeles that it would help. E-mail me.

Usually community colleges have non-credit adult education classes. But you know there are tons of magazines and books that deal with pretty much only the basics. You know, simple stuff but a lot depends on your situation: -Eat out rarely and take a bit of time to cook from scratch.... usually the number one thing in making a budget. -Look at every bill you have. Phone (home) bills are always way up on the list. They slowly add things or keep your long distance rate super high since most don't look. If you have a cell with free nights and weekends why even have long distance. Cable TV - any movie channels can go. Netflicks can give you more movies than you can watch.... at the price of 3 rentals. -The car....... you can always get cheaper insurance if you look around or tell your company you wish to switch. Or have your car serviced. A simple tuneup or having the fuel injction checked can save hundreds a month. This gives you a start..... trim the fat and examine where your money goes FIRST. Then you make lists and a budget.

There are quite a few good websites and books out there. Since you're tight on cash, check out the websites and library. If you want basic stuff, then consider checking out Dave Ramsey and/or Ric Edelman. Both of these guys have books and give seminars.

What means 3 credits for a personal finance college course
What means 3 credits for a personal finance college course?

The credits are an indication of the amount of time required to be in class for the term (typically a semester or quarter) in a school year. In the traditional 18-week semester, a 3 credit class meant you would be in class with the instructor for 3 hours each week. So for 18 weeks in the semester, the total time spent in class would be 54 hours. Some people advise students to spend at least 1 hour outside of class to study and prepare for every 1 hour of class time...and others suggest 2 hours outside study for each hour of class. So a typical 3 credit class might require you to spend a total of 6 or 9 hours total each week. The credits are used to calculate your GPA...grade point average. Typically, and A = 4 points, B = 3 pts, C=2pts, D=1 pt, F=0. If you took 4 classes and each was 3 credits, let's say you got this report card: course 1 A = 4 X 3 = 12 course 2 B = 3 X 3 = 9 course 3 B = 3 X 3 = 9 course 4 C = 2 X 3 = 6 Total credits = 12 total points = 36 GPA = 36 divided by 12 = 3.0 or B The GPA is used to determine if you are in good standing or not. Students with low grades are often put on academic probation and give a specific time to show progress. Credits are counted toward your degree. For example, the college may say, you need to have 112 credits to graduate. Credits are also used to define a "full-time" student (minimum of 12 credits) or a "part-time" student (less than 12 credits). Check in your college catalog for more details about credits as specific rules can vary between colleges.. OK, hope this helps. Best wishes.

The 3% was randomly assigned, but it's supposed to represent what the annual return would be if you invested it in CDs or some other type of savings.

I have a 3 page Int'l Finance paper to turn in and I would like some ideas. I would think an easy one might be: Let's say your company will pioneer a new facility in Russia in 1 year (hypothtical). You know the construction cost will be $500 million Rubbles. Assuming Russian currency is on a float, you don't know how many dollars that will be in the future, so you decide to use a forward contract to lock in an exchange price. Separately, you may decide to purchase a one year option on Rub. exchange rate that allows you to exchange at a certain rate but does not obligate you to do so.

Separately, you may decide to purchase a one year option on Rub. exchange rate that allows you to exchange at a certain rate but does not obligate you to do so.

Is finance or economics the best course? If I want to work in banks
Is finance or economics the best course? If I want to work in banks?
I was wondering if finance or economics is the better course if I want to land a great job in banks and get promoted. I'm a fresh grade, and I'm wondering if what's the course that banks prefer when hiring fresh grads for their openings Thanks!

I'm doing and undergrad course in finance and want to switch to medicine?
Alright, I want to switch to something like cellular biology or biomedical engineering... I have a couple of semesters left, and was wondering if medical schools take in someone with a finance degree. And how to go about choosing an undergrad program? Thanks!

if you want to go to med school, it does not matter what you major in. however, you have to take certain prerequisite courses, biology, physics, organic chemistry etc. you also have to take the MCAT, an exam for admission to med school. the actual courses you have to take in undergrad are: A year of Freshman Chemistry along with the appropriate laboratory courses A year of Organic Chemistry along with laboratory courses A year of Biology along with laboratory courses A year of Physics along with laboratory courses A year of English A year of Calculus or other advanced math classes, including Statistics

They have ,its called robbery 101.

yes, and regular drug -testing. after all, Washington politicians are in charge of the decision to use nuclear weapons.
3
No, because the liberals would just cheat on that too. It should be a requirement for voters to take a basic finance course before they are allowed to vote for some half-witted free-spending liberal.
