Every college and university has different courses, so this question cannot be answered in a general way. You need to look at the course offerings at the school you are interested in to see if this class is offered.

What courses he should select would be best determined by his own interests and skills. You need to involve HIM in the selection process.

Tell him to use the computer to play on finance. Finance is universal entity that lands on Wall Street.

I have to simmerize two articles in my finance course. any help finding them?
these articles could be about recent situation in finance. A story that has just happened or some changing in finance rules. I'm not an expert in finance. It is a general course I'm taking but I need some help in finding a topic. could you please help me. They want academic journal..

Did they tell you what kind of articles? Do they have to be articles from an academic journal, or articles from consumer publications? Magazines or newspapers? As to topic, certainly that shouldn't be a problem this year! You could look at anything surrounding the recession that we just pulled out of and what that means for the field of finance. What is going on with employment, new laws regarding mortgages, concerns about China's system collapsing, anything about healthcare and how that affects finances, etc. They don't expect you to be an expert in Finance if this is an introductory course. If you weren't given any further instructions, I would look at Business Week, Forbes, Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal for inspiration.

yes it should be around grade 11 I think that way they have time to get the hang of it before they graduate and are in the working world or figure out what college/university they can go to

2
Its a good idea. I have thought so for a long time, too. I'd include it in a course on practical life--basic cooking, shopping, nutrition, how to balance a checkbook, how to pay bills, even how to sew and do basic easy car service and plumbing--all the practical things that people pick up, if at all, only after years of sometimes bitter experience.

3
Yes! Public schools usually state someplace in their mission statement that they're around to produce productive community members. Learning all those things is important.

4
DEFINITELY. I can't understand why this obviously necessary information is - withheld? - from young people. Is this an accident? Ignorance? Or...?

5
Sounds good to me

6
I wish they had put more emphasis on it in high school. Maybe using some real life scenarios. All they taught us was how to balance a checkbook, calculating interest, etc. "Consumer Math" is what they called it. A "Money Management" would have been better.

7
Such a class would receive my full endorsement.

8
Fabulous idea! I'm going to call my school board tomorrow. Perhaps we should all write a letter to the editor of the newspaper and get this course in schools ASAP.

9
Actually that is a good idea. Sadly that was the job of Mom and Dad but apparently they are so busy they can't be bothered with raising the children they brought into this world.

10
Yes! I not only think that a finance course is in order for young people, but I think it wouldn't hurt to require two or three finance courses through one's high school curricula. HS courses are a dime a dozen... but what is especially important in this case is the neccessity to explain to students why it is important to understand basic finance (ie. keeping a checkbook, cash versus credit, affects of debt, & the importance of saving early), it's relationship to real-life, and the impact if the basics are ignored. I found your question interesting... for I was just talking to someone at work yesterday about this very topic.

11
Yes. Everyone will eventually have to deal with money, finance, credit, retirement, loans, investing, etc. They should learn about these things, including basic consumer shopping (think grocery store, balancing a checkbook, day to day banking, credit cards, etc.) and handling a paycheck, paying the rent, buying a car, obtaining a mortgage, etc. The sooner, the better.

sure and also parents should teach their kids too.

Hi, I would say that there are typically 4 components to a good financial plan. Really, they're all personal finance basics, just put together in one document. 1. Assessment of debt and a plan to tackle it 2. Assessment of income and a plan to budget to manage cashflow 3. Assessment of insurances, especially life, and a solution that meets needs and fits budget 4. Assessment of investments (no point going here if the first three aren't in order) and implementation of a program that looks at the person's risk tolerance and time frame. I found one of our old articles that talks about managing auto insurance and how our writer had a close call.

I don't understand your question. The best course for an undergraduate to follow in finance is the general finance degree plan that will include all of the material that you mention.

Well, I live in the U.S. and could be COMPLETELY wrong, but I believe the college I attended does correspondence with UK schools in our Business Dept. I am led to believe this was either @ Cambridge or Oxford. The course might cost a bit, but I'm sure it will be very thorough. If that's not a viable option, try to find an online financial advisor company. They will have a wealth of information on these subjects as they deal with it on a daily basis.

2
Maybe trying Mutual Funds could be one of the ideas.Contact one in your area and I'm sure your fund manager will be delighted to help you with the saving and investing part.Fidelity is popular in UK, I'm told.

3
How about you visit www.cfp.net, you will find a professional view! But, take care, before you join the course, you must ask yourself whether you can put 15-20 hours weekly in studying, or not. Don't waste any money!

Sometimes a local high school (vocational) offers a basic investments or stock market course. There are a lot of books on the stock market. You can check on amazon.com or your local bookstore. The great thing about Amazon is that they have reviews that can be helpful at selecting the right book that matches your needs and skill level. My dad has been trading for years. It is not easy. He started out with buying stocks and mutual funds. He then went onto call options. Now he is doing more with options. (call and put) I was Series 7/63 licensed (brokers license) and spent 5 years in investments. I received a lot of training in finance and investments. I also have a business degree. I recently took a graduate finance class. It is complex stuff. I see why they get paid the big bucks, these investment professionals. So keep that in mind. It may take some time to absorb and understand. It's not perfect. If you think that you will learn everything you need to know to get started after one class then you might be mistaken unless you are really gifted, which you might be. I'm not. My dad isn't. He's read so many books on investing and the stock market over the years. He's now in an exclusive investment club. He has a lot of friends that have been investors for decades now. He would tell you that he's not an expert. There is a psychology to the market. Warren Buffett is the best investor ever. I would read a book that he's written if you want to make money. Stocks are subject to high risk. You can make a lot of money but you can lose too. Options trading is even riskier and should only be done by experienced investors because you need a margin account. Not everyone can get a margin account. You need so much capital and again, experience. You have to understand the risks involved. I'm sorry if I seem condescending. I don't mean to at all. I don't know you and by your question, I can't tell anything about you. How much experience do you have with investments? Do you have a 401K or IRA? I don't know of any online courses unless you go with a college course. Usually finance courses have prerequisites before you sign up. I took an Investments and Security Analysis class at Bentley College after I graduated from college. I took a Managerial finance course a few months ago in an MBA program. It was tough. I learned a lot about options when I was studying for the Series 7 and Foundations in Financial planning exam. I've gone to financial seminars. I know what they are about.
